Estate sales, Goodwills, and Consumer Mall, oh my! If it's a Saturday in the spring, you will find me rummaging through other people's abandoned trinkets. I love treasure hunting! My favorite things to look for, are kitschy old knick knacks, vinyl records, and pop culture ephemera. Here are just five of my favorite finds.
Starting off the list is something I had been looking for for a LONG time until a few weekends ago when a friend of mine gave me the scoop on a great estate sale. I LOVE The Muppets. Especially the diva herself, Miss Piggy.
1. A vintage 1980s Colorforms 15-inch Miss Piggy Paper Doll Set in perfect condition! It was like an angelic light was glowing from behind her as I pulled her from the old crate. She comes with six different fashions, and six different wigs. She has a special place in my office right next to the emergency Aqua Net.
2. A 1992 Sports Impressions Magic Johnson Los Angeles Lakers coffee mug. I bought this at an estate sale over by the old Boiler Room for two dollars! My husband is a huge fan of all things 90s basketball, so I knew he would love it.
3. I found these bad boys at Unique Thrift Store in Louisville when I was in college. I actually only found all but Lance Bass the first time I went. He was my favorite, so I was super bummed, but I just had this feeling he might show up. Sure enough! The next time I went, there he was! Sitting right there on the shelf next to some old Pyrex waiting just for me.
4. Gigantic cherries! St. Vincent on 18th St. here in Owensboro had this really unique 3d cherry art when I was browsing one day. I have a little texting group chat with a couple of my best gals. The name of the chat is top secret, but there are cherry emojis involved! So we always buy each other things with cherries on them. I loved this one so much that I had to keep it though!
5. A 1980s Garfield Cookie Jar by PAWS. My son discovered all of my old Garfield comic books and fell in love with his snarky humor. We were at a fab little antique shop in Cave City, saw this cutie from across the room, and just had to bring him home. As I was looking him up, I realized, he is pretty rare! I could only find one listing on Etsy at $225! We definitely did not fork up that kinda dough for him, but that is really cool to learn! Maybe Rollins can sell it for college tuition one day.
Do you have any interesting pop culture finds from treasure hunting? I would LOVE to see them!! And be sure to holler at your girl if you come across a sale with anything weird!
